Heart Shaped Trinket Boxes

I've always been partial to hearts and I also love little trinket boxes, so I had a 'duh' moment, why don't I combine that love and make heart shaped trinket boxes? Yes!

I've had a ball 'crafting' these and I am really looking forward to creating more for all year 'round!

Heart shaped boxes are great for any time of the year, birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine's Day and even weddings! I'm planning on making them for my Etsy shop too.

This batch is for the florist/gift shop in my town, the Center Stage Florist, and I should have had them up there to sell at least two weeks ago. It took me a while to get started on them, I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do to finish them. But now I'm on a roll, I've got plenty of great ideas on how to decorate them with collage work, decoupage, mosaics, covered with old buttons, glitter glue and jewels, some die cuts and old metal keys, I've got all sorts of fun ideas! Now, off I go to start creating them! Have fun!

RESOLUTIONS

I'm Going To Lose Weight!

You know how it is, you've heard it every year since who knows when, 'What are YOUR new year's resolutions?' and every year you say the same old thing, to go on a diet, get healthy, (those two are usually first on the 'list'), quit smoking, quit drinking, get out of debt, spend more time with family, have more fun and so on. Most people say things like that. Yes, those are the usual objectives which we wholeheartedly believe and PLAN on implementing at the beginning of each new year, yes indeed! We resolve to change our lives drastically and improve it dramatically!

But what happens in about, ohh, two or three weeks from now? Where did those vows of becoming a 'better' you disappear to? What happened to that energetic spark that was going to last and last the whole new year through? What happened to the new you, the one who you were going to change into?

Be Positive!

Nope, I don't set myself up for failure so I don't make new year's resolutions. That's simply against everything I am because I don't want to feel like a failure in ANY aspect of my life. Making a bunch of 'resolutions' that I know dang well I ain't gonna keep, weighing myself down, is not the way I want to start out my new year. I like to start out my new year on a very positive and hopeful note so, instead, I use a POSITIVE word. I like to think of this time of the year as a time to make 'REINFORCEMENTS'. I can handle that term better. To me, it denotes that I have something good going on already and that I am going to add positive actions and ideas to that something 'good' and make it even better. Resolving something sounds like it was previously bad, negative! Not winning! (I know, ugh!)

Positive: I plan on eating more healthy foods. Negative: I plan on going on a strict diet, quitting sugar, fats, ice cream, candy, sweets, everything I love. (Oh, how terribly negative and depressing ... this is a failure, I can just feel it)

Postive: I plan on walking more often, with a friend! Negative: I plan on walking three miles a day and increasing that until I'm walking ten miles a day by the month of _________. (I'm tired and sore already and I haven't begun!)

Accepting Change Is Reinforcement

You know that with every little positive habit comes more positive habits. Your brain just feels so good about the good changes that it wants to do more! So, whether you choose to practice resolutions or positive reinforcement to your 'already postive' ways, the inevitable outcome is change. Positive change, positive reinforcement.

We must change something in our lives, our thoughts, our habits and our 'ways' to create changes in our life's outcome. If we want to live a happier, more fulfilling life, we promise ourselves (not others) that we will practice more positive ways every day. No lists, no plans, just be positive, doing something positive for yourself or for another every day that you can. Take that extra step and soon that will lead to another and another positive step in your life as well as others.

When you accept change, welcome it and embrace it, it will become easier to change as you need to, and always for the better! Remember too, that you are not doing any of this for anyone else. Your life is your own and putting yourself out there for others to judge, (and they will) or having others 'compare' you with them or what you did previosly or whatever, only puts a negative spin on your goals.

I will reinforce myself with more hope, more happiness and more positive attitude in my daily living and in the things I do. I am changing my life by creating new beginnings by reinforcing my ways.

Because I love prims, folk art and country folk art, and I love to create it, and I would like to showcase it all in one place, I'm building a new shop and the name of it is PRIMITIVE FOLK ART, imagine that!

Oh yes, it's pretty bare there right now, but I will have lots more paper products soonly! That's all that is going to be there, no magnets, t-shirts or coffee cups, just paper and stickers and stamps, because they are basically paper products, right?

FINALLY!!! ZAZZLE HAS TRINKET BOXES!!!

DON'T PANIC! SPIDER on this box! I happen to like spiders and was truly amazed at this one that I photographed one night at my place! I had walked through it's web, it was sooo thick and strong, very rubbery and would not break! I got through it and went and got a flashlight and almost crapped when I saw what made the web! I quickly looked it up online, never have seen one like this in Michigan in all my life!! So, of course I had to get a ruler, try to measure it, take pictures, what a chore! Trying to hold the ruler and shoot a Canon Rebel, it was difficult! Suffice to say, this spider was HUGE! I admire it though, it's truly an awesome beauty. The hugeness, the spikey legs, the fantastic web! I've never seen him again, been looking for him. With the full moon out last night, it would have been an awesome capture, not me, of it! :)

Meow, Meow, Meow...or Here Are Some Cute Kitty Kats!

Being the owner (did I say that?) of five cats, I am totally in love with them, even though I'm constantly busy cleaning up after them, feeding them, brushing them, watching them and their different personalities, babying them, laughing at them and having to 'watch my step!' with them (why are they always underfoot?). If you are a cat owner and lover, you know the rest!

They are not owned by me of course, they OWN ME! And they know it! And they LOVE every minute of it! But they are happy cats, oh yes! They get fed well, they get fresh water every day, they go for vet visits, they have a basket of toys and each one has it's favorite, and they get their little treat of tuna once in a while.

(Males don't need too much tuna, it's not good for their urinary tract). So, when I need to gather my cats around, all I do is use my secret weapon and yell 'TOOOOONIEEEEE!!!' and look out! They all come arunnin'! Even the neighborhood 'feral' cat knows this sound! He doesn't come running though, he's too cool, he just saunters up to the house, acting like 'Ok, whenever one of you is done with your dish of tuna, I'll take over.' and he does....and it's all good! My cats are used to him, they mostly ignore him and he's just a big ole baby, but he hasn't let me pet him yet, and I don't push him, all in due time. Someday he may let me. I almost don't want to get too friendly with him as he's more of my neighbor's cat now.

The next door neighbor lady hates one of my cats. She says that my cat digs out her flowers, which I know the cat does not. The squirrels take care of that project, but she has it in her mind that my cat does this awful thing and she just hates her. But, when she saw this feral cat hanging around, she felt sorry for him and she started feeding him by her back door. Usually he's over there either sleeping on her bird feed tubs or eating his tasty meal that she's left out for him. He's got it made in the shade!

I once made a cute calendar with cats on each month, it was a gift for my mom who is a major cat lover! She has cat pictures on all her bedroom walls, cat magnets, cat statues, figurines, cat sculptures outside, all sorts of cat home decor items! It's easy to give mom gifts for any occasion, just make sure it has a cat on it and she LOVES it! I've made some artsy projects for her with cats on them, a wooden jewelry box, some cat framed pictures and even a cat 'stuffed animal' plush stuffie. I'd like to get her to sew for me, I have a couple of cat patterns on fabric from my Spoonflower shop and I've asked her to go in with me in making them for my Etsy shop. She likes to sew in the winter months, so that will be a great project for her, now that she's retired.

She has since passed beyone, and she was such a beautiful person who I met at Zazzle when I first starting creating art for online POD sites. She was my fourth 'fan' there! I'm sure she's smiling down at me now, showing you her wonderful cat, BOBO. Here he is again, so cute! BOBO

I'm so excited about these cute little 'gnome' guys! They have created a new card shop, perfect for displaying greeting cards and designs by Cherie's Art, oh joy!!

The set-up is easy, the site is fun, and cute...I love the little 'shelves' they use to display greeting cards. I don't think they've been around too awful long, but they sure do have a cool site, AND they are wind powered, they use organic inks and recycled paper, they are GREEN!!!

Erin Dunbar, the sweet intern, called me to ask me about my designs when I signed up. She said they loved my work, as I showed them the various POD sites that I'm already creating art for, and she was so kind and helpful! She even included me on the BLOG!

This is a swell format, so easy, so fast and no waiting for someone to review your designs. The card gnomes are keeping it simple so there are not thousands of categories to sort through to find the perfect place for your art card.Although, it's still not as COOL AS ZAZZLE, you cannot design the inside of the cards here, this is a nice place to submit artwork for greeting cards and I'm happy to be included and featured!

SUMMERTIME! And the Living is Easy!

ONE of the things that I love most about summer is being able to lay outside on a big, cushie blanket in the yard. There is something about laying on the ground, resting under a shade tree, or lying in the sun, (for a short time, use sunscreen!) that makes one feel as if there are absolutely no worries in the world.

Now there are no schedules to follow, no appointments to keep, no hurry-scurrying here and there. There are no more problems in the world and your day is filled with the sweet fragrance of flowers, bird songs and sunshine.

Peacefully you rest, you relax while the occasional sound of a bee buzzing by and the feel of the soft breezes blowing caress you and ease you into a sublime state of happiness, you cannot help but to smile!

Just as when you were a child, taking your toys outside to play, going to the beach and playing on your beach blanket...ahhhh, the summer adventures are back again! So grab your snuggliest blankie and come with me! We're going outside to play!

Gee, I just love creating digital collage sheets for digi-scrappers! AND for those who use REAL paper to create their scrapbook pages! I'm having a ball just drawing this and that, like tags and brackets, floral labels and such and listing them at my Etsy shop! There are so many themes I'd love to create, will I have time?? YES! I'll make time!

So, as most of you crafty types know, these images can be used for just ANYTHING!! There are so many great ideas and cool projects I could list and go on about!

One idea that I haven't seen anyone use yet, is to use these digital art frames to slap their photos into and then upload them into their digital picture frames! You know, the ones that sit on your desk and show various photos! CLICK HERE Have you? I'd love to see!

I'm so happy to say that my artwork has been featured on one of my favorite artist's website! Yes! I'm on bsilvia's blog and I'm truly honored! Thank you Silvia, you are such an inspiration!

I designed Mother's Day cards using her beautiful floral swirl brushes that were included in the Wedding Brushes set that I had recently purchased. (see previous blog post). These brush sets are for commercial use, which is exactly what I was looking for too! I needed some decorative brushes to help me create designs for greeting cards and I needed something quickly! How handy is that to purchase awesome brush sets, very affordably, for commercial use and so fast!

Not only does this fab artist offer awesome brush sets for purchase, but there is an unbelievable number of freebies offered to all of us 'graphic designers' as well! You MUST check out her website! Join the Green Bulb Gang, visit all of her websites and you will certainly be amazed at the amount of free tutorials, free brush sets and even free layouts that are offered!

You cannot imagine how exited I was to find this artist's site when I did a search on Google for FREE PHOTOSHOP BRUSHES! There is an amazing wealth of knowledge generously offered and all that you will see must have taken years to accumulate! And so much is offered to us for free? But she's doing it, it's out there and Silvia's work is outstanding! Here is a freebie digital stamp that she created using SCRIBBLER! (see my freebies page-I've used Scribbler too!)

So, I've been having fun designing and here are a few of my 'quick photo card' layouts! Just like 'quick pages' for scrapbooking artists, these are all set up for you to simply drop your photos in, print out and frame or you can use on your websites, blogs or even FaceBook pages. One of my favorite things to create, fabulous 'photo frames' and all are quite suitable for framing.

Along with the brushes that I've created, (the swirled brackets, scratch brushes, stitching and textured backgrounds) I've also used some great brushes by bsilvia, including the decorative frame, crowned hearts, floral border and floral brushes.

Aren't they lovely?

I don't always have to time to create my own brush sets, even though I have at times, somtimes I need something different, something totally unique and positively GORGEOUS! I love the free offerings by bsilvia, she's an angel, a creative angel truly!

ACEOs and New Printer!

THIS IS SOOO SWEET!

I purchased a Canon Selphy CP800 and it is the sweetest little printer, I swear! I'm sooo happy with it!

I've been wanting to print my ACEOs on a printer that will do them justice and by gosh, I've found it! It's compact, really cute and it really does print super! Uses Canon photo paper, which is very nice quality, love the finish...and, well, just take a look!

I'm just using a thumb drive to print but you can hook it to the computer!

So clear! 4" x 6" sheet, I've printed an ACEO.

The paper goes through printing yellow first....

Then magenta...

Then cyan and then black. It's so fast too!

I'm very pleased with this affordable and cute little printer!

I'M SO STOKED! CREEPY STUFF HERE I COME!

I'm finally adding some artwork to my newest Etsy shop and I'm so excited! Click on the title to go there, use your 'back' button to return here.

It's called 'BOODIES'. Kind of a fun and whimsical name for a shop that will feature creepy art. From ACEOs to witches and warlocks, all my original artwork on fabrics, dolls, tiles, printables, downloadable clip-art files, jewelry and much more!

I didn't want the name of my shop to be too dark or totally ominous and 'BOO' in the title helps to define the theme style.

I love dark art, scary faces and monsters. I had a vision of creating some creepy little characters many years ago and just never got around to it. Now just seems like the right time to 'dig' in and get started on my newest venture. Yes, I'll probably throw ghastly words in here and there, I kind of like the whole creepy thing more than you know!

I wanted to name the shop BOO-dies, but Etsy won't let me put the dash in there, but that's ok, people would probably have pronounced the name wrong with that spelling. It is pronounced 'booties' as in 'baby' or 'butts'! I can emphasize it later though, in my banner and in my descriptions. I'll have zombies, dead things and all sorts of gooky-spooky items eventually.

Right now I have three listings at BOODIES. One is a downloadable/printable set of capital letters alphabet in my CREEPY FONT that I created a couple of years ago. That digital art file is in the form of a sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper, a jpg or PDF file. The letters are placed on 1" black squares, perfect for pendant makers!

The recipient will receive the file via their email and will be able to save it to their computer. These downloadable art files are so cool, so handy to collect and have for future use for all sorts of fun paper projects and crafts.

I also create banners and avatars for Etsy shops, (and other websites). Need a customized banner? Let me know!

Of course there will be ACEOs listed in my new shop. I have a few that I created a few years ago and will list soonly. They are quite....uh, um....weird!

I am really looking forward to making some creepy dolls too, so I'll create some fabric designs and patterns at my Spoonflower shop for those. I'll have all sorts of grungy, creepy, monsters, elves, dwarves, evil fae and dark art dolls, eerie pumpkins and freaky faces (masks) for kids for Halloween or for collecting!

You can never be ready too early for Halloween or have enough monsters, spooks and 'creepy stuff' in your life - can you? Not me!

This is sooo my thing too! I've always had a passion for creating dark art, making scary faces, firey dragons, ugly witches, ghosts and ghouls. I always dress creepy for Halloween too, it's been that way in our family since forever!

Besides growing up watching Shock Theater and Sir Graves Ghastly, Dad would tell us spooky stories when we were kids. We'd all gather around in the living room and we'd sit there and listen to him tell the tale of the old woman who lived all alone deep in the dark forest. At night you could hear her moans echoing through the woods, 'Whoooooo's gonna stay with meeeee?' Needless to say, he'd go on and at the end SCARE the crap out of us!

Even my mom loves creepy! She still watches those eerie shows on television, she loves ghost stories and she reads scary novels, I don't watch some of the things she likes!

Oh, I've thrown some creepy things in at my Zazzle shops here and there over the years....I don't always make cutsie-pretty things!

Just after we got the great news of being able to design envelopes, out comes iPhone and iPad cases, then ornaments, coasters and now necklaces! What is next?

This blog post just popped into my head! Just now! Don't know where it came from, doesn't matter, but I know of people who do this sort of thing, many people who do....and it's so comforting and heartwarming to me to know that these things, they DO HAPPEN!

In this world of fast paced, me, me, me attitudes, it's so heartwarming to find people who are so giving. I remember reading a wonderful artist's blog, quite a while ago, about this. It was about how she creates lovely 'artsy' and crafty items and leaves them here and there, hides them for people to find. Isn't that awesome?

JUNE is an 'art angel', that's what I call her! See my favorite places to visit on the left hand side? There is her blog! A CREATIVE DREAMER

Can you even begin to imagine how awesome that would feel? To find a lovely treasure, with a warm greeting card or tag, with an inspirational message or love thoughts, nestled in a pretty bag or box...I'd feel so Blessed and so comforted! The 'high' off of the feeling of gratefulness AND love would make me cry, I know it!

In my heart, I know, that I would like to start doing this, sharing my love of art and sending inspiration and love to people without having them know who it is from. The feeling of giving is in itself, the greatest gift of all!

So, I'm going to start, I want to make someone's day! I know it will feel fantastic too, to know that I made someone smile, maybe cheer them up in a way that they've needed for a very long time. I cannot wait to start! I'll post pictures of my 'Joyous Giving' projects!

RESIZING THE COLUMNS in this BLOG!

THE stuff on the right and left hand side columns on this blog kept sticking out over the edges of the main middle column, so...I went into the html and put these numbers in and now, it's looking good!

About how far down? Well, just do a search for b:skin...that should get you to the next lines. NOW, this is only for the template that I've chosen to use from the premade templates! So, you can play around with your blog if need be, just remember to save a copy of your template (or use the 'reset' or 'clear edits' if you need to, if it all goes outta wack!)

REACH FOR THE STARS!!

I AM SO EXCITED!! I am to design a star for Bronner's in Michigan!! Oh joy!!! I hope they like it...I hope they dooooo!

Working with our new product line, STARS, I was asked to submit a design that will include a snowmen family, like the one that is seen on the Bronner's billboard sign. This will be for an ornament that we will produce.

Of course I'll paint my own version of the snowmen family, my own 'take' for this cute little ornament and perhaps they will want to purchase the 18" and 12" version of the star as well. I see a fun snowman with poinsettia flowers in his top hat, a cute little snowwoman with fuzzy mittens and hat, two small snowkids with mittens and scarves, oh it's all going to be so fun to paint!

Bronner's in Frankenmuth, Michigan sees thousands of visitors every year. It's quite an exciting place with all it's vibrant color and beautiful decorations. It's a must see Have you been there?

NEW PRODUCT LINE

Some of you know that I work for Millwork Engineering & Crafts, Inc. in Union City Michigan and that we have two companies that are called Gifts For Home and The Craft Room. We sell our home decor and wooden picture frames to retail and wholesale customers.

We've just started selling a new line of metal hanging stars that have reversible banners and some come with magnets attached. The magnets can be purchased separately as well as with the stars. We offer many different designs including country style 'folk art' stars, with quilt patterns, angels, antique red 'friends' as well as modern 'flame' stars with motorcycles, firefighter and our newest designs, POW*MIA and Breast Cancer Awareness, with a PINK RIBBON magnet.

Out with the old....

...in with the new!

I'll be closing down my website soon, it's time. I've been paying Homestead over two hundred dollars a year for it and it's just not worth keeping it any longer. My sales haven't really improved all that much by it, and I really don't have time to keep it updated as much as I'd like to anyway. Besides, I've got so many other places (like this place) where I can write and post photos of my latest art projects and products for sale, so it just makes a lot of sense to close it down.

When I first started my website I really was excited about having my own domain name, Cherie's Digital Art. It was my baby, my own place to design everything the way I wanted and I really got into it! But, not many people have searched those particular words. You really want to name your website something that people are actually going to SEARCH for!

I've had to post the link to my website just about everywhere else that I am, like Zazzle, Greeting Card Universe and Redbubble, and it still hasn't really had that many visitors in the amount of time I've kept it going. I checked the traffic using Google analytics, tried learning how to get it 'out there' more, did my own Google searches, Twittered it, mentioned it at my FaceBook page, but all in all, it's just not getting enough traffic or attention. I know that it will feel good to get this burden off of me too, I need it! I don't like to think about something that is being neglected, that I just don't have time for, but am still paying for. I've got so many sites to take care of and between my work and my art, well...I just don't need my own website at the moment.

I sure hope you'll stop by and visit my website before it is no longer, in about two weeks or so, around the end of August, and I truly thank you if you do! There are some neat items for sale over there, such as the stickers that I have designed and purchased through RedBubble, they really turned out awesome! I'll be posting them here within the next few weeks, along with some of my fabric designs that I've created for my Spoonflower fabric shop.

My challenge now is to focus on what I want to do with this particular site, and thank goodness it's still free! I'd still like to show off my newly created designs from my various POD sites, as well as advertise all of my online shops. I'll post all of my links here soon. I'll continue to write interesting articles, jotting down my thoughts, perhaps I'll throw in some family recipes here and there, and just do some good old daily journaling....I have many, many ideas for blogging and I love to write!

I follow all things ARTFUL! Twitter has been very kind to me until just lately, when I reached my 2000th follow, that means I'm following that many people! I love Twitter, find it most interesting, informative and it really is fun! BUT, I cannot FOLLOW anymore people because they have some sort of RATIO thingy I guess! Ratz! I want to follow more artists, more of the people that are interesting to follow and it isn't letting me...THAT really ticks me off! All the time I've spent there and do spend there, they should really let me follow some more peeps!

I'm so mad at Twitter for that.

I ALSO cannot change my background page, it stopped working! Try to get any help with that, NOT! They lead you to dead ends at the help section. They say they are aware of it and that I am to upload the picture I want to use to TwitPic and then tell them where it is....oh, it's silly.

I thought Twitter was cooler than this...it's making me not want to go there anymore. That's probably what they want, because they can't HANDLE all these people and the Tweeting!

What to do, what to do....

I had my fantastic little boys here for the month of June, my two grandsons, Ian and Josh, and it was THEE best time of my life! Oh, the love I have for those two youngins!! They sure kept me busy and it was such a Blessing having them fill the house with life and laughter and 'BUSY-NESS'!

But now they are gone, they've gone back home to Arizona and I'm here with all of the free time I need to get creating again, I can get back into designing, painting and doing what I love to do, what I yearn to do....MAKE STUFF!

Problem is, I'm stuck.

I don't know what to do.

Or, maybe I just don't know what to do first!

I've had a 'list' of 'TO DO'projects in my head ever since I can remember, it never goes away, never gets shorter or easier for that matter, but I seem to be having a harder time of getting started! I don't know what to do!

I've created and crafted, sewn and drawn, painted and played with all sorts of mediums, from hand painted wood crafts to digital art, beading jewelry and creating stained glass ornies and boxes, painted silk scarves, made paper mached baskets, pencil drawings, ACEOs, and so much more....

I've got tons of online POD sites to create for, like Zazzle, RedBubble, CafePress, ArtFire, Bonanzle, eBay, Etsy, Skreened, Printfection and more...

I've got my own website where I sell my stuff...

I've got this cool blog page, Twitter page, Facebook page....

Sometimes, I spend hours looking at artwork online. I'll look at the people who are on my 'artists' list at Twitter, to see what they are creating. Or, maybe I'll check out my Zazzle friends, to see what fresh new designs they are inspired to create. There sure is a wealth of art out there, between Etsy and RedBubble...there are soooo many places to see creativity.

But, truly, where does it come from? How do they do it? How do they continue to create and not get burned out...or do they? Where do they get their inspiration? What do they do when they get this feeling of being burned out, or not knowing WHAT TO DO? Or DO they get this feeling? Is it just me? Am I really not the artist I thought I was?

I actually long for someone to TELL me what to do, isn't that odd?

Why would I have to resort to that when all my life I've just done whatever I've wanted to, knowing that I can do anything I want, and do it well. Now it's like I'm completely stumped.

I thought, perhaps I need a 'life coach' or an 'art coach' or just someone who understands what it's like to be yearning to create but cannot. This is really becoming a bit of a serious problem for me and I'd really like to get out of this 'feeling' or 'slump' or 'artist's block' or whatever it is.

It's actually quite depressing.

I get sad when I don't create. It's like I have no life, no energy and no happiness in me. When I'm creating it's like a drug or a high inside of me that lifts me up, gives me excitement and life!

So what has happened? Where do I turn, how do I find the answers or shake this 'THING' that is happening to me??

Help!

If you would, please comment, give me a sign, a little gesture of understanding and a little push or SHOVE on my shoulder....I'll even take a slap on the head! Like they do in NCIS!

Seriously would love to not have this ugly BLOCKAGE in my life!

Over the past seven years or so, since I started my online adventure in selling my art and crafts at eBay, I have had the fortunate opportunity of being in the company of many gifted artists. I've made a few close friends along the way, for which I am very grateful, and I've also watched as many of them have grown considerably in their craft as well as seeing them venture onwards, starting up their own websites as well as trying out the new avenues to help sell their artwork.

I've observed that many of them have now branched out to the various POD sites (print on demand) sites such as Zazzle, RedBubble and Greeting Card Universe, to name a few.

I've seen that some of my favorite artists sell their artwork at other 'auction' type sites, other than eBay, and also at sites like Bonanzle, ArtFire, ShopHandmade and Etsy. These shops are not auction sites, you set your prices and shipping as you see fit.

Many of the artists like to show their latest creations and chat online in 'real time' too! We now have Twitter and FaceBook, sites which are SO popular and the place to be for really being in the 'right here, right now' zone. This is the most popular type of 'online chatting' as it were.

There is also the 'networking' NING site, where you can join any one of a thousand different types of groups that fit your interests, such as art, charities, photography and many more. I am in the MIXED MEDIA WORKSHOPS group, headed by Deb Company, who is totally amazing, as an artist and as a peson who knows how to get a bunch of gifted people together to join in teaching, sharing and learning all aspects of art in many mediums. SHE is an amazing woman and I have admired her dearly from the first time I saw her at the art group at eBay called A & AE (ACEO & ATC Enthusiasts).

Deb has a terrific gallery going on at Etsy, called DebCoArt and she sells her awesome paintings on clothing for women and children as well as original oil paintings on gessoed panels. She also has an original idea, her promotion of the video workshops that she has created, one on mixed media and one on painting, BEGINNING OIL PAINTING.

Not only does Deb have some awesome YOUTUBE videos of her art, (really, you MUST check these out!) she has vids on 'how to' subjects, she has contests and she has a collection of great videos that she has favorited and subscribed to.

I remember when Deb first got into making videos, when she made her first video and told us all about it at the art group at eBay, and now, she's quite famous!! She's got a lot of followers, and that is really terrific. She found her niche and stuck with it!

Speaking of the group called 'A &AE', there is a gal who started THIS phenomenon, ACEOs, (and don't let anyone tell you any different), but she is a huge part of that movement of ACEO ART CARDS (that are always and ONLY 2.5" x 3.5" in size). These small format artworks can be made of any type of medium, any thickness, but the size of these must always be correct. Her name is Jillian Crider.

Jillian Crider. Wow! She is a phenomenon in herself! She is everywhere with her fabulous watercolors, acrylics, pastels, journal art, her miniature artwork, just a treasure trove of artwork from this fabulous lady! I'm so glad that she finally decided to go over to Zazzle too! I had been showing off my Zazzle creations when I first learned about it, it took a while, but now I see quite a few of the artists from the eBay group have gone over and have started to put their fantastic artwork on products such as t-shirts, stationery, posters, greeting cards, shoes (yes, Keds shoes!) and even Avery binders! What a unique opportunity!

AND then there is 'CORRIE'S WORLD'!! The fantastic world of Corrie Kuipers! I adore Corrie and her artwork and she is so famous at Greeting Card Universe and at Squidoo. She and her partner have some awesome lenses on marketing your art, how to create greeting cards, make more money with your art, and as you will see, her artwork there is so adorable!! Her attention grabbing artwork is also so famous at her Zazzle site, she even has a shop at CafePress, check it out! She certainly does have her own unique corner of the world covered, cute and irresistable art on wonderful products. She is the object of artist interviews, and well deserved. Her art is easily and instantly recognizable, such adorable critters, Christmas art and so much more on greeting cards, t-shirts and totes! Truly another artist that I admire.

What a sad day...

Finding out about the passing of a fellow artist and friend today, Sherry Holder Hunt, at FaceBook, it really made me stop and think about how much these online chat sites truly affect us, how they can be such a huge part of our lives and how they connect us to so many people in this world, people from all over the world. It is truly amazing.

I'm thinking back to a time when I didn't work on a computer, when I didn't own one, when I didn't log in every single day to one of my (seemingly) HUNDREDS of online websites...when I just got up in the morning, made coffee, made breakfast, turned on the tv and listened to it while I washed clothes, washed dishes, swept the floors, dusted, played with my little boy, or sat down at the table to paint something.

If I didn't turn the tv on, then I turned the radio on and went about my daily chores or crafty type projects. Sometimes I'd even put a record on the record player while I'd work on a sewing project or crocheted something...or cooked something...or hand wrote a letter. I was alone, connected to the world, but only in one way. Nobody was 'connected' back to me.

Now, I'm glad I turned on the computer and logged in to FaceBook today. I'm glad I wasn't alone in doing that too. I'm glad there were other people who had logged in to find out about our friend, Sherry. I am glad that the news from Tennessee, from a few days ago, made it's way to FaceBook, to and from the UK, to and from Michigan, to and from many places all over the world, with everyone mentioning their shock and sadness at the loss of a dear person that we never would have met, had it not been for the internet.

Usually I don't even bother reading previous posts from days earlier at FaceBook, but I sure am glad I did today. I would have felt just awful if I didn't learn about Sherry's passing somehow. I want Sherry's family and friends to know about how much I cared for Sherry, how I respected her, and how saddened I was to learn of her passing. It was way too soon, Sherry was so young, such a lovely person, a wonderful artist, a loving mom, a wife and a friend.

Sherry passed away on April 9th, 2010 and now she is with the other angels in Heaven. She will be sadly missed. She was always so kind and cheerful, full of fun, such an artist and she had a lot of spunk! She had great ideas and created so many wonderful galleries that are just chock full of her incredible artwork! I met up with her at many of the online POD site places that I have art galleries at too, like Greeting Card Universe, FineArtAmerica and Zazzle. We also belonged to a group at Ning called 'Friends of Mikey Huggs'.

I also saw tweets about her at Twitter, and I even retweeted about her a few times. I wanted folks to know of our loss. There were a lot of people who knew of Sherry too, in this big online art world, there are many close knit friends. She was greatly fond of Squidoo and had many terrific lenses, the Squidoo community wrote about her in the lounge. I found it so very heartwarming to see so many people who knew of Sherry, sharing their thoughts and sorrow, what a Blessing!

I guess the computer isn't such a horrible thing after all, even though I get tired of it sometimes. I start to get the feeling that I'm wasting my time here, but seeing all the responses to Sherry, it's truly a good feeling, knowing that, in this huge cyber world, we can become closer, as friends, as artists, as fellow cybernauts. We do have many people out there who really care.

So, even in sadness, we can share our thoughts, and know that we are here for each other, that we are not alone, not completely.

Sherry, you are living on...here and in many hearts of many of your cyber friends....your wonderful galleries of art from your heart!

It has been such a Blessing to be a part of a great group of people who are incredible artists and who love to share their knowledge with us. There are tons of freebies, free tutorials, classes, videos, just an amazing group started by an amazing woman, Deborah Company.

I met her through the Ebay art group that I am in, A&AE (ATC & ACEO ENTHUSIASTS), a number of years ago. I knew she was gonna 'break' out of the confines of chatting and showing artwork at that group, eBay has it's watchdogs, you couldn't do anything without pissin' them off, so Deb started her YouTube videos, little contests and well, it just exploded! She then started the art group at Ning and it's been an incredible hit with tons of people! It will NOT go away, this is the real deal if you want to see fabulous art and learn, and have tons of fun, as you go!

Please give it a looksee at this website and group that is a continuous WIP, work in progress, and for that I am thankful!

Helping Teach English To Tibetan Refugees

It does my heart so wonderfully good to see this happening, right before my eyes! Another amazing person I've met through ZAZZLE, Tammy Winand, has gone to India, made her way to this place in life and has found her 'true' calling...her heart and mind need to go back! Her helping these people that she has fallen in love with and wants to give of herself to help teach them, is her life's calling now.

I really have been moved by this, not only because of the interesting articles, journaling and photographs, but by the strength of a person who is courageous enough to follow her heart, to venture out into the unknown, to continue her journey facing all odds and to involve herself in life situations that are not all 'prim' and perfect, or at least would seem to be to most people.

IT ALL BEGAN HERE

This indeed can explain to you what I cannot begin to write. I have no words to describe, truly, this adventure that Tammy has taken US on...her followers, her fans, her supporters, her students.

I was captured by Tammy's articulate writing when she first ventured on this journey across the seas. I remember how nervous she was, writing all about her feelings, both physical and mental, as she dealt with all of the details of traveling, not knowing what it would be like, what her sponsor would be like...all of the 'unknowns'! I watched her daily, watching her TWEETS as she made her way. Everything that she's done and gone and been through, she's kept us informed! Her tweets, her squidoo lenses, her blog, at FaceBook, and it's all been so incredible. This isn't just a casual trip on vacation, this has been a 'life changing' adventure that most people would not be BRAVE enough to take!

BOBA Baby Carrier Fabric Design Contest!

I've entered my second contest at my favorite fabric 'PRINT ON DEMAND' site, Spoonflower today! This contest is for designing a panel for the Boba Baby (child) Carrier! This is NOT the 'weekly' contest, but an additional contest where the winner will work with Boba to complete the design and they win $500.00! Awesome designs being submitted now!

The theme for the Boba Baby Carrier is 'Nature' and I've chosen to create little 'florettes' using the Pantone colors that are suggested for matching the browns in the carrier. I think that flowers are nature's little smile makers, they are just fine for everyone! Boys, girls, moms, dads...and well, they are everywhere! Also, the color of my fabric is dark so it won't show stains or dirt easily.

The 'weekly' contest is going on as well and that is for your votes on a STEAMPUNK design. So, go on over and vote for that! There are some truly awesome designs in this contest too!

I cannot rave enough about Spoonflower! It is so cool to be able to design fabric patterns for personal use as well as for the MARKETPLACE! We can actually sell our fabric now, to the public! You do have to purchase a sample of your fabric in order to submit it to the marketplace, which is a great idea, to be sure of the quality of the print. That way, if you need to make adjustments, you will be able to see the fabric in person, to see what changes you may need to make. When you are happy with your design, by all means, get it out there!

Thank you Whopple!

I'm so excited and I couldn't be happier for the recognition! I was asked to be interviewed by Anne Marie of Whopple. It is the 'ARTIST INTERVIEW' and my interview will be at the forefront of the Whopple website for this week. Yay! Really, I am very thrilled! Thank you Anne Marie!

It is fun to be recognized, and it's exciting to think that I'm getting my designs 'out there' for the world to see. What a Blessing to be included on this terrific web page! I'm also trying to figure out ways to market myself a bit more, to get myself known, and it is a difficult process. One that takes a lot of time, planning and sometimes I get so involved in my art projects I just don't have the time to promote me! (I need an assistant!)

This came right after I had won a contest for a cuff design at Tattooed Steel, so it was a very exciting week for me indeed! Tattooed Steel is a fantastic place to purchase steel cuffs, tags and awesome belt buckles, all designed by superb artists! (More on this later!)

Writing a personal interview is a very difficult piece to write, I sure have found that out. Well, for ME anyway. It took quite a while for me to finish this short interview and it felt like it took so long to answer each question. I kept changing each answer as I would think about it. Sometimes I'd just have to put the interview away and start fresh again, and this happened a few times. I'm really not good at talking about myself objectively, not really a great writer and was afraid it would sound too corny or not exactly how I meant it to sound.

I went ahead and read some of the other artist's interviews and they all seemed so professional but relaxed to me, like they'd done this sort of thing before. Perhaps I should have had someone else proofread my interview, but then I thought, what the heck, it's me...it's from my heart. I can only write what I can only write!

This is actually my second interview, the first being done by my friend CaptPhrank, who interviewed me for El Zazz, a blog about Zazzle artists. Capt is a really GREAT guy who is so giving and so very helpful to his fellow Zazzle pals.

All in all, I am happy! It is my moment of fame on the internet, one that I am very grateful for and hope that this will help me in some of my ventures of designing for products on the internet. Between creating for POD sites, I love to create handmade crafts for shops like Etsy, ShopHandmade and Ebay. I have been Blessed to be able to create in a variety of mediums and enjoy them all. It's fun to ask myself each day, 'What would I like to create today?'

ETSY and COOL MOM PICKS contest for Valentine's Day!

JANUARY 30 UPDATE: I didn't win this, didn't even place, or get an honorable mention, but it was fun and well worth it anyway! I'll be putting these 'COLOR ME' cards on at my Greeting Card Universe shop soon! There's a sale going on over there now too, buy 5 or more Valentine cards and get them for $2.29 each! Etsy and Cool Mom Picks (blog site) have teamed up and created a contest for Valentine's Day. It's a contest where artists and illustrators create a black line drawing in a jpg format, and it's for a greeting card for kids to color.

100% of the proceeds of the sales from the cards go to the Children's Heart Foundation. Isn't that simply AWESOME? YES! You can check out their website here!

Cherie's Dreamie Digis

Enjoy perusing my latest online digital art shop called 'Cherie's Dreamie Digis'!

I do enjoy drawing and using my graphic tablet, so I might as well enjoy selling my artwork online. These images all can be downloaded through the email, then the owner can either use as digital art for blog banners, clip-art for avatars, or print the images out on paper or cardstock and make fun greeting cards, table place cards, scrapbook and journal pages...whatever paper crafts you can think of!

I'd even use them to print on Shrinky Dink plastic sheets! Let the kids make trinkets and fun elements out of plastic! Shrinky Dinks now has such a fantastic assortment of plastic sheets, it's amazing! They even have black and brown sheets of plastic now, you can use light color pencils or paint them after they are baked!

There are even kits now too, so you get all you need in a packet.

I've loved Shrinky Dinks since I first saw them, which I could have sworn I was just a kid, but they were invented in 1973 and I know I wasn't all grown up then, but I wasn't a kid, although I felt like it! I had my boy only two years later and I still have Shrinky dinks that he made. They ARE durable!

Christmas Stocking Stuffers

I have been making photosculpture ornaments at my Zazzle shop, Cherie's Art Store and I've really enjoyed it! It's been a long time since I've uploaded any designs to Zazzle. I get so caught up in creating for Greeting Card Universe, along with the daily happenings, I've not been creating as much as I'd like to have for this Holiday shopping season.

Zazzle is offering the 12 deals of Christmas and today they offered sale prices on 'stocking stuffers' including photosculptures. I'd really like to purchase one, to see how they turn out. I've heard they really print great, sturdy too. It says that they are made out of acrylic, on the ornaments.

There are stand-up displays as well as keychains, magnets, pins and the ornaments. They are quite pricey I think. They want $15.00 for a 2" x 3" and $19.00 for a 5" x 7" size ornie!

I used to get my ornaments made at Cafe Press, but I missed the free shipping again this year. I really liked the ceramic ornaments that they make. I learned not to make my ornies with borders too, some of the sides didn't get painted and was very noticeable being that I had used black for the border, against white. So, remember to keep your borders away from the sides of the ornaments, just painting inside the top at least 1/4" or so.

Well, I'm off to make greeting cards out of the 5" x 7" size ornament designs for Greeting Card Universe. Visit my shop Cherie's Art Card Store there for greeting cards that you can cut out paper ornies! Use them for scrapbooking, altered art and memory pages! Or, use them to make your own greeting cards, paper is fun to use over and over if you can!

Thanksgiving Keepsake Photo Card

Hello October lovers!

Isn't this the most beautiful time of the year? Oh yes! With the gorgeous colors of the trees and fall flowers, the cooler weather, sweaters and blankies, (oh, the texures!!). The smell of burning leaves, football games, decorating the house and yard with Halloween and fall time lovelies, the crafty-creativity of artists and crafters out there stocking their Etsy, Ebay, Zazzle, Greeting Card Universe, ArtFire, RedBubble and Bonanzle shops...man, busy, busy, BUSY! It's just the best time of the year!

I get so inspired to create at this time. Not only the digital art illustrations that I make for my online POD (print on demand) shops, but real 'hand crafted' items such as painted baskets, painted cupboard doors, painted pots, shrinky dink earrings, jewelry, paper mache baskets...oh, so much to do and so little time!

Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner, as we all well know, and that is part of this inspiration to create too. Getting ready to sell artwork and goods for the Holidays is so exciting. It surely gets my 'spirits' up just thinking about all the neat gift projects I'd like to create for my family.

Every single year I say that I'm going to get ready for all of this in July, Christmas in July is the norm now...and of course, I didn't get ready! The months just flew by so fast! Has anyone else noticed this? Where did July go?

Well, anyway, I was randomly perusing the blogger this morning and reading a lot of the wonderful blogs that I came across. Some blogs are about home decor, art for sale, art projects. This is something that I really enjoy doing periodically, to get inspiration, to see some of the latest trends, to see what's going on out there in this big blog world! I came across some wonderful blogs this morning, very nice looking and informative, so I followed them. You can check out my list of places I like to visit.

Now, it's time to get another cup of hot coffee, with a dash of Carolan's and a dash of chocolate, yum! And, get to work! I have lots to do. Lots to create. Lots of dreams to make come true!

Cricuts and Gypsies and Paper, oh my!

What a great GIVEAWAY!

I am really getting into the 'giveaways' lately, and there are a lot of them out there! Isn't that fun? People who are so GIVING! (See previous blog!)

I found that the artists on eBay were the first ones who usually gave more artwork away than they sold when I first started purchasing ACEOs from them. They always included extra little goodies, an additional art card or a beautiful little notecard with an ACEO attached. I've received cute little stickers, bookmarkers, doodads that are used for paper crafts, business cards, magnets, just really nice promotional items that made the adventure of purchasing art online so much more fun and really something to look forward to.

Now, within the last few recent months, I'm seeing 'giveaway' and 'freebies' more and more on so many websites. Not only on scrapbook websites and Photoshop 'free brushes, shapes and actions' but free digital files on Etsy, Bonanzle, ArtFire and so many more places.

It's inspired me to give some of my artwork away too. I believe what you do comes back to you and I do have some little art projects that someone would use and appreciate. I have one 'freebie' on Bonanzle, a desktop wallpaper and I will have plenty more to give away on all my websites, and there are quite a few of them too!

Anyway, getting back to the Cricut Gypsy...I really would love one! I thought about purchasing a Cricut many months ago but felt it wasn't really what I would use. But, since then, I have had a yearning to make my own paper greeting cards. I'd like to sell them in this quaint little florist shop in my town.

Greeting cards can be such wonderful 'keepsakes' too. Photo greeting cards are wonderful framed, whether with a 'digital' frame or a wooden frame. I sell my greeting card designs at Greeting Card Universe, Zazzle, RedBubble and CafePress and some of them are just so pretty and would be great framed!

I work for a framing/home decor company, Gifts For Home, so I have great access to some awesome frames, and I've decided that I'm going to have my first giveaway of a choice of one of three greeting cards, (I will even personalize it for you), and your choice of a picture frame. I'll be posting my 'Greeting Card Giveaway' here soon, so check back in a few days, I'll try to get the timeline on here right away. Of course I'll be Twittering it too!

Creating digital art files is one of my favorite things to do. I love the challenge of creating a unique and original themed 'quick page' or photo frame or clip art page for the scrapper or altered artist. There are probably thousands of wonderful projects that one can create from just printing out a simple little computer file on paper!

Paper crafting is more popular than ever and it's not going to go away. Whether you are a scrapbook artist or like to create sewing patterns, paper doll patterns, greeting cards, stationery, letterhead, business cards, recipe cards, notepads, sticky notes, gift tags, buttons, magnets, Scrabble tile pendants, stickers, table placecards, patterns for envelopes or paper airplanes, you will surely come to the conclusion that you can do it all, and items like the Cricut are going to be as common in the home as a television someday!

"Members of Quilters of South Carolina have created one-of-a-kind bras for Breast Cancer Awareness. The exhibit consists of fifty original works of art which are unique, entertaining, humorous, and beautiful to make the public aware of breast cancer, to memorialize those lost to the disease, and to honor survivors.

This exhibit will tour SC until Oct '09 at which time individual Artful Bras will be auctioned and the proceeds donated to the Best Chance Network, a program that helps women ages 40 to 64 who need to be screened for breast and cervical cancer, but do not have insurance or have insurance that only covers hospital care, and who meet certain income guidelines.

The bras come prepared for display on their own hangers and are available for exhibit across the state of South Carolina. The exhibit is available until October of 2009. This is REALLY what struck me about June's blog. Look at the left hand side ofher blog page, where it says "What I'm hiding today..." She has created a blog to chronicle her adventure of hiding art around her community! Click on the picture!

I was a bit overwhelmed by it at first, lots of reading and some things don't work...especially if you are just a 'basic seller' and not a 'verified seller' but that's ok. I still like the Etsy format much better, but I will certainly enjoy giving this venue a try!

So often we come across really great blogs and don't remember to follow them or remember where we saw them, or the names of them! I know I have a heck of a time remembering ALL of the wonderful blog pages I've seen over the years, as I'm always checking out SO many blogspots! From crafting blogs, artsy blogs to computer tech blogs, I'm always searching them out! Sometimes I pick random blogs and have just a super time seeing people and their writings, people from all over the world!

This all became aware to me through a terrific place that I joined a while ago called NING.

The NING site is fantastic. It's full of an incredible amount of interesting groups, I'm in quite a few of them, and I love that too! You should check it out, find a group that you are interested in. Or start one of your own, then tell all your internet friends about it! There are lots of 'modules' and fun things to do as well. There are comment boards, blog boards, photo albums that you can create, just a really neat place to find all kinds of people and activities, all in one place!

I see that the GROUPS section is still there at eBay, and hopefully it will continue to be so. I know it is an integral part of what makes the eBay community a true community.

TOTALLY love ETSY, it's so popular now!! It's the same as SHOP HANDMADE, but I just like it a bit better. I guess it's because I've been a member for so long, I've grown accustomed to the ease and beauty of this site. It really is...with all the lovely 'picks' on the home page...some of which are simply out of this world. We really make some incredible things, don't we?

My shop is Cherie's Arts 'N Crafts, I sell my digital art there, and some ACEOs, have to have something 'handmade' as in 'real' pen and ink...but I do so love to create digis too! You can find my digital art files for Scrabble Tile Pendants, backgrounds for ACEOs and some ACEO cards that I've created as well. I have had painted gourds there, paper mache baskets, all sorts of crafty things. Best of all it's so CHEAP! They only charge twenty cents a listing...now come on, you can't beat that!

ZAZZLE REFERRALS

Making a button for your internet browser for referrals linking to Zazzle has made it very easy to build referral links everywhere!! Woohoo!! That is one very good way to make money from Zazzle, by referring yourself, of course, or others who have really terrific items that you think will sell well.

Time to take advantage of all of the tools that Zazzle has to offer...like store building and API templates...all of which are free and ready for you to take advantage of at Zazzle.

Zazzle has a Seller Blog, or Zazzle University, both are full of hundreds of tips and tricks that help to make selling and making money off of referrals and a page called the COMMUNITY PAGE that has tons of great info on 'how to' do all sorts of neat things! You just cannot have enough information!

We used to chat it up at the COMMUNITY PAGE but now Zazzle is taking full advantage of TWITTER by having us chat it up there. Why not? Makes perfect sense to me to use the space there and free up tons of space at Zazzle...THAT IS WHY I imagine they did away with our chat area. We miss it though...but, I'm sure something good will come out of it.
