 WEARING 'O THE GREEN

So, celebrating Christianity in Ireland became quite a fun holiday, aye? Wearing green hats and clothes, carrying good luck charms and shamrocks, drinking green beer, having parades and just plain celebrating the foremost patron saint, Saint Patrick. This is always on March 17th, the day he died.

MYTHS BUSTED

St. Patrick was a real person, but some of the traditions associated with him and the holiday are actually myths. For instance, you’ll often see the four-leaf clover on St. Patrick’s Day. However, according to legend, Patrick used a three-leaf clover, or shamrock, as part of his teachings. Even though it's possible for a shamrock to grow a fourth leaf, a four-leaf clover is just considered a symbol of good luck.

Another legend says that Patrick chased all the snakes out of Ireland. The problem? These creatures never actually lived in the country. In fact many animals found throughout Europe and North America don’t live on the island of Ireland—the ocean keeps the critters away.

So, if you don't wear green you risk the chance of getting pinched! Some really do go all out for this holiday too! Like Chicago, the city that turns the Chicago river green to honor the Irish immigrants who came here and helped to settle this area. 

Green became the color associated with this holiday but St. Patrick actually wore blue. He taught his lessons using the green shamrock so eventually, green became the color associated with him as well. The leprechauns also were originally a different color too, they were known to wear red. Their attire became green too!

Mostly, anything celebrating your Irish heritage is what it's all about! Whether you go all in for the wearing 'o the green, having green foods, drinking green beer, wearing a shamrock for good luck (the four leafed shamrocks) or simply and quietly observing the people who came from the Emerald Isle to America to start a new life, enjoy this Sunday!

I know, it's almost Halloween night, but I'm sure some of you have already been (dare I say it?) CHRISTMAS SHOPPING!

I find it is more difficult to go shopping physically every year. I have RA and I hurt everywhere, just had hip surgery and it's only been four months, soooo I'm taking it easy. I guess online shopping will be the way to go for me!

I am going to try to send Christmas cards this year though. I say that every year and always put it off until it is too late and then I don't send any. I always remember someone else who I'd like to give cards to too. It never fails. The people I see in my town, the shop-keepers, the bank tellers, the store owners! I want to wish them all happy holidays!

Stocker stuffers are my favorite gifts, to give and receive! I loved all the years of being a child and seeing what surprises Santa would put in our big dad's hunting socks! That was the best feeling!

One year, mom put Jergens hand lotion in our socks, in glass bottles and I broke mine. What a mess. I still remember the smell! I remember going into the laundry room and carefully emptying the sock to get all the glass out and separate everything. I felt so bad! I hated breaking a beautiful gift from Santa! 

Here's a great gift idea for stockings, and they don't break! STICKERS!!! I love 'em! I want to sell them at my Etsy shop but not until I can get a really good deal on purchasing them first. Everyone is selling stickers now, whether they buy them first from sticker makers or print on demand websites, or make them using a die cutter like Cricut or Silhouette or Sissix or whatever!

Some of the stickers I've sold at my Redbubble shop! Buy a quantity and the price really goes down! I've purchased them from Redbubble before and they are really nice, thick vinyl and last, easily removable too!

HOLIDAY SEASON

HOLIDAY SEASON IS HERE!

Soooo, are you ready for ALL of the holidays?

I'm sure you have your Halloween decorations out. As soon as that is over, you'll put up your Thanksgiving or Christmas decor, right? Or you do you have it all up already?

I would like to decorate for Thanksgiving and Christmas at the same time so I don't have to take anything down until after the new year arrives. That is when I take down my tree. I keep thinking that I'd like a tree that stays up all year long!

Seriously, Thanksgiving is my favorite time to decorate for. I love all the harvested pumpkins, dried flowers and wildflowers. I could have this out all year long!

It's only October and I'm thinking about the new year, wow! Already???? Woa, I'm gonna back up! I don't even have any Halloween decorations out!
